Relmagina Puerto Rico

On December 2018, ReImagina Puerto Rico (ReImagina) set forth recommendations for the reconstruction implementation process of Puerto Rico. Amongst these recommendations, it was highlighted the need to establish a public master registry of Puerto Rican resources related to the construction industry. As a result, ReImagina collaborated with the Puerto Rico Builders Association, and the Associated General Contractors of Puerto Rico to create Construcción Puerto Rico.

Construcción Puerto Rico is a digital directory of the construction industry resources of Puerto Rico. It is a portal where local companies and professionals can disclose their capabilities to carry out works related to the reconstruction of Puerto Rico. Furthermore, this platform provides visibility of local companies and individuals working in the construction field in Puerto Rico so that business opportunities, contracting and/or joint ventures may be explored.

The platform includes companies and organizations, as well as professional individuals, in Puerto Rico’s construction industry. Every company and individual is classified under one or more of seven particular categories of type of services offered: (1) design, engineering and planning; (2) commercial/industrial contractor; (3) infrastructure contractor; (4) residential contractor; (5) supplier; (6) services; and (7) other. Other criteria that has been identified under each company and individual profile includes: years of experience, area of service, number of employees, type of ownership, annual revenue, applicable certifications, and contact information.

Who is ReImagina Puerto Rico?

ReImagina Puerto Rico (ReImagina) is a locally led nonprofit initiative that works toward the swift recovery and coordinated reconstruction of Puerto Rico. ReImagina seeks to tap the variety of approaches, visions and experiences that communities, private entities, NGOs and public institutions can bring forth in a coordinated effort to rebuild a stronger, fairer, more prosperous Puerto Rico.

Relmagina was created in January 2018, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and María and the throes of Puerto Rico’s fiscal and economic crisis.  Non-partisan and independent, ReImagina evolved from the Resilient Puerto RIco Advisory Comission and its currently a program of Center for a New Economy.

What We Aspire To

ReImagina aspires to help rebuild Puerto Rico on a more solid, equitable and resilient foundation.

We recognize that beyond the enormous physical, social and economic challenges that Puerto Rico faces today, there is a wide horizon of opportunities to transform the island following common priorities and promoting a fair reconstruction process.

We have identified the need to go beyond pre-existing conditions and seek to promote innovation, ingenuity and a learning-by-doing approach in all rebuilding and reconstruction initiatives.

Our Focus

ReImagina works to help align recovery efforts and bring greater coordination and transparency to the process.

As a first step towards creating a common blueprint and maximizing the use of recovery funds invested in the island, ReImagina convened a wide variety of voices to identify a broad but common focus for rebuilding efforts.

These have been published in the ReImagina Puerto Rico Report and Six Sector Reports. ReImagina currently works towards fostering implementation of these recommendations. It also promotes the following guiding principles in reconstruction efforts:

Maximize social well- being in all investments

Prioritize equity and inclusiveness

Ensure transparency at all levels of policymaking

Emphasize and foster coordination and collaboration
